MCOMM Blog
I’ve gotten into the habit of carrying a camera with me at all times. Not only do I love to shoot, but I find that having a camera always accessible helps to keep my creative juices flowing and photographic skills sharp. Now this, of course, is nothing unusual. Many videographers and photographers are of the… ( read more )
I began my career in video production way back in 1980 as a Producer/Director for WPTD, a PBS affiliate in Dayton, Ohio. It was an exciting time to be involved in broadcast. With the advent of Sony 3/4″ Umatic gear, portable location videography was possible for the first time, while new 1″ Ampex technology upped… ( read more )
If you’ve read some of our previous blogs, you know that MCOMM often uses DSLR rigs for video acquisition. When outfitted with quality “glass” and other peripheral gear, DSLR equipment is capable of capturing amazing footage. Now it’s important to note that MCOMM has several camera platforms at its disposal, including Sony broadcast cams and… ( read more )
It’s been an awesome fall and early winter that’s taken us just about everywhere… from factory floors to tropical beaches. But don’t be fooled, sometimes the most exotic locations turn out to be the toughest shoots, and conversely, a relatively mundane locale can be quite rewarding. MCOMM recently had the opportunity to go back to school, and unlike our video crew’s first 16 years or so of primary and secondary education, this time was a lot of fun. The past two months have been an absolute blur of activity – several studio productions for corporate and commercial clients, and numerous location shoots that have taken us from a snowy Pikes Peak to the foggy Golden Gate – so now it’s time to take a deep breath and refresh the creative batteries. But just… ( read more )
I tell people all the time that if I’m shooting, then I’m a happy guy. It’s not that I don’t enjoy the other aspects of production, I do. But I find it especially rewarding to be in the studio or on location with a great crew and talented actors, and have all the planning that’s… ( read more )
While our main focus at MCOMM is video production, we also do a fair amount of photography. In fact, over the past 3 months, photo gigs have accounted for a good percentage of our business. We’ve been shooting it all, from corporate events in the Rocky Mountains, to location scenics in the Sonoran Desert. But… ( read more )
I’ve been shooting film and video for more than 35 years (yes I know, that makes me very old), first with an Arriflex 16BL and then with a wide variety of video cameras (my latest main cam is a high-end Sony), but I’ve never been as impressed with the images I’ve captured (and I’d like… ( read more )
We’re always trying new things at MCOMM, and lately we’ve been experimenting with timelapse photography/videography. These can be tricky, it requires specific weather conditions (if it’s an exterior shot), a bit of trial and error, and a lot of patience. In fact shooting timelapse typically involves a generous amount of standing around while hoping that… ( read more )
